African Archaeology Research Day (AARD) is an informal meeting of Africanist archaeologists who are principally based within the U.K. It is particularly intended to encourage undergraduate, post-graduate students and post-doctoral researchers, as well as more established scholars, to present recent and ongoing research and fieldwork results. It has been an annual event in the United Kingdom since 2002, aiming to showcase research by students and younger academics, accepting both lectures and poster presentations, with informal discussion throughout the meeting.

As per previous years, the conference this year will take place over a single day – Saturday 24th November 2018.

Presentations are encouraged on all aspects of African archaeology. The meeting will be as a series of single and, if necessary, some parallel thematic sessions, as follows:

1. Environments and Landscapes;

2. Technologies and Objects;

3. Heritage and Community Engagement;

4. Pan-Regional Connections.

Each speaker will be allowed 15 minutes to present their paper, followed by 5 minutes for questions. Posters will be mounted on boards in the common room of the McDonald Institute.
