Stonehenge

201810_stonehenge_exhibition

Throughout the Neolithic and Bronze Age, Stonehenge stood within a constantly changing ebb and flow of objects, styles, people and ideas. We know that people travelled over great distances to take part in feasts and ceremonies when the monument was first built, and that some of the earliest Beaker and metal-using people were buried nearby. Later, metal axes and daggers, symbols of the Bronze Age, were carved onto the stones.

Bringing these objects together for the first time at the site helps us understand Stonehenge in its wider European context.

Making Connections is an English Heritage and British Museum partnership exhibition. It also features objects on loan from our local partner museums, Wiltshire Museum and Salisbury Museum.
