The newly established Laboratory for Traceology and Controlled Experiments (TraCEr) located at the MONREPOS Archaeological Research Centre and Museum for Human Behavioural Evolution (www.monrepos-rgzm.de) of the Römisch-Germanisches Zentralmuseum Mainz (RGZM, www.rgzm.de), institutional member of the Leibniz-Association (Leibniz-Gemeinschaft), and the RGZM headquarters in Mainz are seeking to appoint a senior researcher in use-wear and manufacturing trace analysis to develop research projects for the TraCEr in Mainz.

 

Project and aims:

The Traceology lab of the RGZM aims to carry ground-breaking functional studies that combine methodological development (controlled experiments, measuring raw material properties, and high-resolution 3D quantification methods) and fundamental archaeological research. The position entails:

    Design and execution of experiments on materials commonly found in prehistoric, ancient or Early Medieval contexts (e.g. ceramic and metal).
    Development of traceology-related project proposals
    Engaging in and supporting collaborative research with the various RGZM departments
