As part of a university-wide initiative involving the Turkana Basin Institute, the Department of Anthropology at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position is the fifth of five faculty lines that have been created across campus for researchers whose interests intersect with the goals and resources of the Turkana Basin Institute.

We seek to hire an individual with expertise in hominin paleontology.

We encourage applicants from any area of hominin evolutionary morphology, including craniodental and postcranial skeletal morphology, phylogenetics and paleobiology. We seek a candidate with the potential to augment or build upon one or more of the Department of Anthropology’s current research strengths, further strengthen synergistic relations with other departments on campus such as Anatomical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Ecology & Evolution, and Geosciences, and take advantage of Stony Brook’s unique relationship with the Turkana Basin Institute. Candidates need not have a current research program in the Turkana Basin.

The candidate should be an effective teacher in undergraduate and graduate courses in biological anthropology and develop programs that will enhance the department’s tradition of interdisciplinary research. The successful candidate must also have the clear potential to establish an internationally recognized, externally funded research program that would include mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students. The candidate must have a Ph.D. in Biological Anthropology or closely related field at the time of appointment.

Applications are due by October 10, 2019 through AcademicJobsOnline.org at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/14210 (Position ID: 14210). Applications must include a cover letter, CV, research and teaching statements, up to three examples of publications, and the names and contact information of three references. Applications should be addressed to Hominin Paleontology Search Committee, Department of Anthropology, Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, NY, 11794-2100, USA. Questions should be directed to the Chair of the Search Committee at anthropology_tbi@stonybrook.edu.
