We seek an archaeologist with a research focus on stone artefact analysis, particularly in the Early and Middle Stone Ages. The successful candidate should add to the existing strengths of the Department, should provide leadership in field research and be able to contribute to its teaching programme. He or she will have a research programme in southern Africa, or be willing to develop a programme in this region.

Requirements include:
• A PhD in the discipline of Archaeology.
• Some evidence of ability and interest in university teaching.
• A strong record of research productivity and publication.
Responsibilities include:
• Teaching and developing undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses in the Department.
• Supervising honours and postgraduate students.
• Pursuing an active research program and raising required funding.
• Course convening, departmental and faculty administrative duties.
