In the framework of the newly funded ERG project: REVIVE Tracing Hominin Occupations of and Migrations through the Levant: Reviving Paleolithic Research in Lebanon,  the Paleoanthropology Workgroup at the Institute of Archaeological Sciences, University of Tubingen is seeking to fill an archaeological field-director position.

 

The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team of researchers to be led by Dr. Sireen El Zaatari and work on the exploration of the Paleolithic record of Lebanon through conducting new fieldwork in the country and studying previously excavated material housed at various national and international institutions. The successful candidate will thus be required to travel to Lebanon and also to various other countries in Europe and to the USA, The selected candidate will be mainly responsible for the organization, design of methodology, and co-direction of the fieldwork component of this project and will also work on the analysis of already available/newly discovered lithic material. Training Ph.D. students will also be one of duties of the successful candidate.
 

The successful candidate will also be expected to have extended stays in Lebanon and drive a vehicle (small van) there.

 

Applicants for this position must hold a Ph.D. degree in Paleolithic archaeology or a closely related field. The applicant should have previous experience in (co-)directing Paleolithic fieldwork (surveys/excavations) as well as in studying lithic assemblages. Familiarity with the Levantine Paleolithic record is particularly desired. The applicant should be fluent in the English language (written and oral). Knowledge of the Arabic language is not required, but will be considered an advantage.
