The European Research Council-funded project “Animals Make Identities. The Social Bioarchaeology of Late Mesolithic and Early Neolithic Cemeteries in North-East Europe” (AMI) at the University of Helsinki is recruiting one postdoctoral researcher in traceology of bone, antler and teeth.

 

The appointee’s main duties will consist of conducting traceological analyses of bone artefacts from North European Late Mesolithic burials and participation in the research team of the AMI. Tasks include also some supervision support of a postdoctoral student in traceology.

 

The appointee to the position must hold a doctoral degree in a relevant field (e.g. Archaeology, Anthropology). The candidate must have
excellent analytical and methodological skills in microwear analysis (low and high power approaches) and experimental archaeological replication of archaeological wear traces, preferably with publications to demonstrate track record. The candidate must have excellent skills in working both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary scientific community. As the working language is English, the successful candidate is expected to have excellent skills in written and oral English. Skills in Russian are preferable but not required. The position is based in Helsinki and tasks include conducting analysis work in Russia, and Baltic and Scandinavian countries, so the work will involve considerable travel/time spent abroad. .
