Following a period that essentially focused on the analysis of collections from pedestrian surveys, our understanding of the Mesolithic period in the Centre region has recently been updated, most notably in connection with the growing number of rescue excavations. Although the chrono-cultural framework has been refined, the majority of dates still fall within a short period between around 8200 and 7600 cal BC, i.e. the end of the Preboreal and the onset of the Boreal. The preservation conditions of most excavations have nonetheless rendered palethnographic information rare.
